Good Morning all!!!

Good morning All!! Another beautiful day here. A great day filled with writing, romance and demons.

Jason says mornin' as he bites into a bagel and Ethan grunts as he can't... It tastes like sand to him, you see. Beth looks longingly at Ethan and knows she can't have him. She must kill him to stop his angry rampage of killing her people.      And Xelander...? Ah Xelander... he's just trying to fight the Kocktary and live long enough to return to his people.       Whipses is looking for his Master.
Makazia fancies herself in love with Ethan, the tall, muscular, dark-haired Other with beautiful blue-black eyes and an attitude. She needs to rid herself of the demon. Beth, if she wants wants to have him. So she is planning evil, vile designs for our hero and heroine.

Demon Hunter, Demon Prey (The Akuma Series #1)

Hi Guys--

I have a synopsis for you from my new book Demon Hunter, Demon Prey (The Akuma Series #1).

Demon Hunter
 Demon Prey
The Akuma Series

Ethan has become Other, part human and part demon, after being attacked by a demon over 100 years ago.
Ethan hates what he’s become.  So he begins hunting demons.  But even though he kills he doesn’t consider this murder after what those demons did to him—what they do to humans.  He’s dangerous to all demons, all clans, all classes.  He’s not picky about which demons he kills.  If they are demons, they are evil.  Yet, he refuses to totally lose his humanity.  After all he fights for humanity... Now human women are turning up dead... And Ethan knows with a certainty that a demon is responsible.

Why Ethan isn’t dead no one knows and if Beth has anything to say about it he will be.
Beth is a demon and a slave.  She wants nothing more than to become normal, to be looked on as normal by her kind.  If she makes her first kill a tattoo of a ragged heart will appear on her left hip and she will have earned the respect and freedom she craves.  But is that all she is?  Is she truly what she seems?  Does she have the unfeeling, detached emotions of other demons, like her uncle, the clan leader?  Because the problem for Beth becomes… can she kill someone she’s fallen in love with?

I also, have "Shades of Gray" a futuristic romance, "Dark Whispers" a paranormal, fantasy romance and the sequel to Demons of Granite Rock... "Return to Granite Rock."  All coming out soon.  Stay tuned.

I also have a blog promo coming up soon.  I'll keep you informed.
Thanks and have a great day!!!

Shades of Gray

Well...  It's been longer than a month.  I'm sorry guys, I'm having some serious writer's block.  I received some negative and I mean negative feedback and I'm not sure if it's that or what's been happening in my personal life or both... but I am really trying.  I have a excerpt from my 1,000 page book for you.  It's called Shades of Gray and it's finished however it too is in the editing process.  And I can't stress this enough!

THIS IS A 1ST DRAFT IT HAS NOT BEEN EDITED, AT ALL, READ FOR CONTENT ONLY NOT GRAMMAR OR PUNCTUATION.

Prologue

Haley waits for his return.  He will return and it will begin.  She stands, pacing the room anxious to have it begin… and end.  She will never give up Jake.  But the Machine takes what it wants. It devours who it will and she might not have that choice.  She might not even remember it.
She makes a clean sweep of the room a circle of the bed which has controlled the room and their time together.  She shivers at the lengths she’s gone to already to protect her son.  But he is more important than her, Toby, Davidson or the crazy world this has become. He’s the only one who can save them from the insanity of Karisha.
She thinks of Toby and longs for him.  Not what he’s become but the strength he’s always been, before he was beaten by the Machine—Davidson’s Machine.  He’d been the one dragging her along a course she’d fought against, and now fights for.
She takes a sharp breath as she hears the key in the lock.  He has returned…

This is just the prologue of course but tell me what you think?   Well thought out comments are welcome.  Thanks peeps!

New title

I have been out of action for awhile.  I have had a family tragedy that has come into my life right when I was beginning to get things moving with my writing and publishing.  It's slowed my progress but nothing will stop me from achieving my goals.
I'm back to work on my 2nd novel I have several already finished and in the editing stage.  One being the sequel to Demons of Granite Rock so if you are a DOGR fan hang in there.  But I've decided to finish and publish Demon Hunter, Demon Prey as my 2nd novel.  I feel it will be my best novel to put out there next.

Here is an excerpt to give you a taste.  Let me know what you think.

WARNING:  This has not been edited.  It's a first draft only and just an example.  But it gives you an idea about my 2nd book.

“You always wear those damned shades.”
     “Yeah, always.”
“Why you afraid to look people in the eye?”
“I’m not afraid of anything.  Except sensitive eyes.”  He said both brows rising at her.
She felt immediately ashamed.  “Oh…  Sorry.”
“Don’t be you didn’t cause it.”  He said his voice soft. Low.  Erotic.
     “Who did?”
‘Who said it was a someone?”
“No one…  I just assumed from your answer that someone caused it.”
“Birth.”  He said casually as if it didn’t matter.
She knew he was lying but why?  “Can you remove them at night?”
     “Depends on the night.”
“I would like to be there for that.”
“At night I remove not just my glasses before I go to bed.”  He grinned.
“That’s not what I meant.  I meant…  I would love to see your eyes when you…”
     “When I go to bed?”
     “No… I..I”
Maybe I’d like that too.  Or we could make it your place.  I’d like to see that.  Solve our curiosities at once.  And there are other curiosities to consider.  Some are more enticing then others, I must say.”  Beth handed over the ten she still held without another word.  She couldn’t think of one.
     “Keep it.  You earned it.”
     “Why you…  You animal…”
“I can be.  But I think you have one inside of you too.  Want to bring them out to play?”
He was leaning so casually against that damned mustang, his legs crossed at the ankles his arms crossed across his delicious chest.
     “Why you…  You beast.”
“Exactly.”  He grinned and she knew it was more than just sarcasm, this time it was sexual arousal, hers.  He could sense it, feel it, knew it.  She wadded up the ten and rushed him, her hands in fists ready to pelt him.  But it was as if he willed them to stay at her sides.  She couldn’t raise them.  She couldn’t hit him.
He slowly uncrossed his arms and ran those sensual hands up the outsides her bare arms and across her shoulders.  It was as if it were instinctual.  He rested his palms on her shoulders and drew her to him.  She tried to push him away but instead she gulped in his cologne, his masculine scent—that smell that was more than just his cologne or the outdoors, or that of a new car.  It was his scent and his alone and it was indescribable.  It was like copper and rainwater, it was pure man, pure sex.
     “Ja… Jason…” She stumbled.
“He won’t bother us.  He’s gone to check on Stephie.”
     “What were you…”
     “Waiting for you.”
     “You knew I would come?”
     “Of course… They…”
“All do?”  She asked furiously.  “I only brought you your money she dropped it at his feet—even as her arms wouldn’t move, even as her body stayed stubbornly against his.  She said.  “I’m not like all the rest.”
“Of course not.  You are special.”  He continued to hold her still, ignoring the ten that lay between them on the ground.  His breath stroked her cheek as he spoke.
“Shut up.”  She snarled, trying to pull free.  He held her tightly by the shoulders and she wanted to give up, move into him, lay her cheek on his chest and listen for his heart beneath that black t-shirt and all that muscle.  Would it be pounding as hers was?
“And kiss you?”  He asked then quite suddenly he pulled her into him.  His hands moved across her back and to her waist.  He jerked her against him, tighter still.  She didn’t protest.”  How could she when this was what she’d wanted?  What she still wanted.
He lowered his lips to hers.  He sought them with an edge that was the most sensual kiss she’d ever had, granted she’d not had many.  Demons were rough and mean.  His kiss was rough with a crazed fever.  A lethal passion but with a gentleness that took her breath away.
She tried to gasp and pull away but he parted her lips with his tongue and tortured her mouth deliciously.  She’d never felt anything like it.  He held her with one hand and turned her until she was against the car, trapped between his wonderful weight and the metal of the mustang.  He lowered his kiss to her neck and suckled the beat at the base of her throat.
Even though it was gentle and felt like nothing she’d felt before…  And she knew this was what she needed… wanted…  She knew she must be the one to kill him and it gave her the will to push him from her.
“Stop.”  She growled her breath heady, her breathing labored.
“Stop?”  Ethan asked.  “Are you sure.”  He nipped at her bottom lip playfully.
“No.  I mean yes.”  She said, pushing him away from her more forcefully.
“Really?”  Ethan said, it was obvious he had never heard the word no from a woman at least not since he’d become what he was…
“What was your plan to do it up against the car?”  She asked.  Disgust in her voice.  But was it for her or for him.  He couldn’t help that he was a sex magnet.  She should have known better.

Ethan was puzzled and unsure of her answer.  She didn’t look serious, the pupils of her eyes were still dilated, her breasts were still puckered beneath her blouse, her lips moist from his kiss, which she hadn’t wiped angrily away.  He pulled her tightly against him again and lowered his lips to the side of her neck, moving his way back to the hollow and …She pushed him away again.  “You’re serious?”  He asked.
“As a snake bite.”  She looked at him anger flaring in her blue eyes as she bent back from him the car stopping her from stepping away instead he stepped back.
“Why?  What did I do?  You don’t like the neck thing okay we don’t have to neck.”  And he couldn’t believe he was saying it.  “Necking is for teens anyway.  We can just get serious with it.”  He took a lithe step back toward her.

Beth placed a hand on his hard, toned chest hating herself for denying her own desires.  “No.  I mean it.  I’m not one of your girls.  I just wanted to give you your change and I was curious about your sunglasses, that was all.
“If that was all you wouldn’t have kissed me like there was more.”  Ethan grinned.  He knew better.  His demon senses kicking in telling him the truth about her, her needs and wants.
“It was a mistake, now let me pass.  I have work to do.”

Ethan uneasily stepped aside.  Was he losing the one thing he’d gained?  Confused and more attracted to her than he’d been before.  Than he’d ever been.  He let her go.
She brushed by him and he smelled her essence, it was more attractive than any other woman he’d had.  It called to him and enticed him.  He nearly grabbed her and forced her into the Mustang locking her in with him to stay naked for hours.  But she’d made herself clear and he was no rapist.  Besides he had things to do before sunset.  He didn’t have time to pursue now.  But pursue he would of that he was sure and he would have her.  This he promised himself.

Comments welcome and if you're not a follower of my blog, please follow me.  I'm just getting started with my work and I appreciate you all.  Thanks.

My newest review for Demons of Granite Rock - Read on Good Reads or here

Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson – LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha]:
Kara Lee Lovell’s debut book, Demons of Granite Rock, was a wonderful surprise.

A thriller full of beautiful riddles and purposeful vagueness in the prose, it had me hanging on every word to see what would come about.

Mark is ‘the ghost’. He’s an enigma. A bipolar consultant for the even more mysterious J.C, whose sole purpose is “the job”.

Granite Rock, Utah is “the job”. A small town in the middle of nowhere, founded by 2 sisters, it is now overrun by a cult mentality community. Mark’s job is to fix it, along with the rift that has torn the sisters apart.

While attempting to do just that, Mark encounters more than he ever bargained for. The town isn’t being overcome by a cult, it’s being possessed by demons, and the innocent are being destroyed one by one.

Demons of Granite Rock isn’t just a horror/thriller. It’s a peek into the human psyche, an instruction on trust, a dissection of good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, and a test of faith. It’s a mysterious foray into the life of ‘the ghost’, the founding families of Granite Rock, Utah, and the greater good.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Demons of Granite Rock 3 1/2 Skulls and would recommend it for anyone who is looking for an up-and-coming author with small similarities to early/mid-career Stephen King and Dean Koontz, or anyone who wants a thriller with diverse layers and action.

For the sake of completeness I have to mention that there are some editing issues in this first release of Demons of Granite Rock, but I firmly believe that if you go into it knowing that, you can overlook them for the sake of the story.

I think Kara has a winner with her debut novel. I’m interested to see what she comes up with for us next.

Demons of Granite Rock and new projects

The sequel to Demons of Granite Rock--Return to Granite Rock should be out this year.

I also have another project in the editing phase. It is even longer than Demons so it will be a lengthy process. It has been written but is also in the editing phase.

Here is a synopsis:

Haley waits for his return. He will return and it will begin. She stands pacing the room anxious to have it begin… and end. She will never give up Jake. But the Machine takes it’s own. It devours who it will and she might not have that choice. She might not even remember doing it.
She has made a clean sweep of the room a circle of the bed which controls the room and their time together. She shivers at the lengths she’s gone to already to protect her son. But he’s more important than her, Toby, Davidson or the crazy world this has become. He’s the only one who can save them from the insanity of Karisha.
She thinks of Toby and longs for him. Not what he’s become, because of the machine, but the strength he’s always been to her. Even now she doesn't realize the strength and courage she’s shown through her journey to keep her son safe.
She takes a ragged breath as she hears the key in the lock. He has returned.

The world has become crazy since Hollywood and the Stars have taken over the government and the Theatrical Guard, the police force. Laws are twisted around and inside out. Prostitution, drugs legalized and gun’s outlawed; this is thought to bring order to the world.
But Toby Redstone knows better and he will not allow the new laws to deter him from the protection of his family, especially his gifted son, Jake. He seeks his guns on the black market.
Because of his actions and because of Jake’s talents he has to make a run for it. He drags his unwilling wife, Haley Rose, the dancer and daughter of a Theatre star into the night, the mountains, and everything that she despises and fears. But he’s right. He’s always right.
Jake Redstone leaves Salt Lake City to avoid the overwhelming onslaught of emotions the little six year old can’t handle and to find a man named, Joseph who knows about the ‘Shades of Gray’ and what they mean.
They tramp the nearly empty mountains running from Haley’s father and his insane mistress, the actress and president of the United States, Karisha Black. She employs her Theatrical Guard and Davidson to hunt them down, bring them back, assuming that Toby is the leader of the rebels. She is sure they wish to dethrone her and destroy her plans for a new world of 800,000 hunter gathers the rest of the world to die by the release of a deadlier enhanced form of the VX gas, bought from the Iraqi government.
But Davidson has different purposes for their return. He’s created a machine that can see and feel others memories and emotions and he is addicted to it, like a drug.
He wants Toby in the chair under the light from the machine and Haley fascinates him. He will have his way with them both, unless Jake and his new friends can stop him.
